How To Plan Your Year The Way High-Achievers Do

high performance tips Dec 23, 2022

For most, time just rolls by and we are more reactive than we are proactive in things in our life. We let life lead us and we don't take life by the horns and truly plan and execute an intentional life. That is why it is so important to take inventory of the common recurring events throughout the year as well as set proper successful goals that will help you make this year the best! Let's discuss... Hi, I'm Nathan Newberry, your success guide to help high achievers level up their performance and achieve their goals and build successful, life-lasting habits.I'll provide insights and secrets of the most successful people I've learned from, and before I get into today's discussion, I put together a free workshop covering five principles and four methods that will help you create better habits, eliminate addictions, and help you plan out your best life. The link is down below. So, planning—oh, the joys of planning! This can be fun for some and a big struggle for many. It's so important to have a game plan in life. I used to do this a lot—letting life just happen, hoping for the best but not having a direction.I realized pretty quickly that if I was going to do anything of worth, I needed to get myself in high gear and chart a plan forward. After almost going bankrupt from many bad ventures, almost getting a divorce, and losing a lot of money, I became an obsessive learner of daily habits and success methods that have helped me and many of my students that I've worked with. Let me go over a few things that will help you.

First, you need to reflect on the past year. Make sure you do the hard work of going through your past events; look at your calendar highlights, look through your pictures on your phone. What situations did you have to go through? What made this year great and what was hard? What made you excited? Who passed away? Who got sick? Who gave birth? What trips did you take? What vacations did you have? What achievements did you make - were there big things or little things that came up? Really reflect on what transpired last year.

Then, after looking at the year, write out the recurring events and ones you know will come up again this year. Make sure you plan ahead and don't miss out on things that are important, like anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, other special events. Also add those things you know that are happening this year, such as vacations, parties, weddings, etc.

Then I want you to think about what things would make this year the best. Would places to travel spark that excitement? Would a service or business help create that sense of purpose for you? Maybe...It's writing a book, starting a podcast, launching that product. What about pushing yourself to lose weight, run a race, look good for an event? Maybe it's making more money and getting something for yourself or your loved ones. Brainstorm a little here; there is no judgement or permanent thing about what you're writing down. Think of fun things and ideas of ways and methods to really make this year amazing. Then I want you to take your big list of things you want to accomplish and chunk it down to the top 3 things—and what's better than 3 is 1!. So, take your top goal(s) - the things that would bring about the most amazing experiences in this year. Make sure it's not a linear goal, but one that would really make a huge difference. Don't make a goal of "I want to get better at golf" or "get better at putting together puzzles". I want something that pushes you a little to become better, be better; something that will help you level up. Now I want you to chunk those goals down: what habits help you accomplish that goal?

For example, if you're wanting to make more money, how many calls or products do you need to sell in a year? How many calls equal a sale, and then chart out what it will take to make that happen for you. If it's to run a marathon, then chart out how many miles per week you need to run or walk to be prepared for that race. If you want to lose weight, then it should be simple habits like eating 2500 calories a day and walking 10,000 steps and drinking 5 glasses of water. If you're writing a 200-page book, how many pages do you need to write per week to create it? You have to break down your goals into smaller pieces and make that next step easier for yourself. And then the pro tip is to track it like a maniac, making sure you're doing it every time.

Here's a recap: now that you've made a list of holidays, events, and celebrations. You'll have this year, as well as prioritizing 1-3 goals. I want you to mark out the dates on your calendar; I use a big calendar in my office and put them on my personal and work calendars, then use a tracker to track the daily habits I need to achieve those goals.
